How to Disable Avast Antivirus: A Step-by-Step Guide

Avast Antivirus is a popular choice for protecting your computer from various threats. However, there might be situations where you need to temporarily disable it. Follow these steps to ensure you're doing it safely and correctly.

Step 1: Access the Avast User Interface

First, open the Avast antivirus program on your computer. You can do this by searching for 'Avast' in the Start menu or by clicking the Avast icon in the system tray.

Step 2: Navigate to the Settings

Once the Avast interface is open, click on the Menu button at the top right corner and select Settings from the dropdown menu.

Step 3: Go to Protection Settings

Within the Settings menu, look for the Protection tab on the left-hand side. Click on it to access protection-related settings.

Step 4: Disable Core Shields

Under the Protection tab, you will find an option called Core Shields. Click on it. You’ll see several switches to turn off different shields including File Shield, Behaviour Shield, Web Shield, and Mail Shield.

Switch off the shields you want to disable. A dialog box will appear asking how long you want to disable the shields. Select the appropriate time duration as per your requirement and click OK.

Step 5: Confirm Disable Timer

After choosing the duration, Avast will disable the selected shields for the specified period. Remember that disabling antivirus protection makes your computer vulnerable to threats, so it’s important to enable the shields again after your task is completed.

Turning Avast Back On

To re-enable the shields, simply follow the same steps and turn each shield back on. It’s recommended to do this as soon as possible to maintain continuous protection for your computer.

Additional Tips

  • Always be cautious when disabling antivirus protection, even temporarily.
  • If you’re unsure about a particular setting, consult Avast’s support resources.
  • For specific tasks like software installations, disabling protection temporarily can help avoid conflicts, but always turn it back on promptly.

By carefully following these steps, you can manage your Avast antivirus settings effectively and keep your system secure.
